To kick off the new year 2023, GARTRA held the first monthly meeting of the year at Wooly’s Cycles of Atlanta, 1581 Cobb Parkway S., Marietta, GA 30060 https://www.woolyscycles.com/ .
We had a great turnout of approximately 30 folks, including Wooly’s owners Bobby and Rascal Wooldridge, and Parts Mgr. Mandie Butts. We began gathering at 6 pm for pizza and to shop Wooly’s extensive inventory of bikes and accessories, and more. I saw a lot of familiar faces as well as several new members. We had time to catch up and share Holiday stories since we last met at the GARTRA Christmas party in early December.
At 7pm GARTRA President Bill Shilling called the meeting to order. Bill called on club officers Sam Shaw (treasurer) and Ryan Morgan (secretary) to provide financial status and membership numbers. Then John Medicus, our Dual Sport chairman confirmed the date of the years Hooch Dual Sport Ride as June 10-11. Then we heard from trail captains James Wascher, Larry Odom, and Ryan Morgan for updates on Whissenhunt, Houston Valley, and Windy Gap riding areas. Bill spoke for the others including Town Creek, Oakey Mountain, and Locust Stake.
In addition, Bill brought us all up to date on recent events and planning going on with the US Forest Service (USFS) which included the reopening of Locust Stake (after many years being closed) and USFS approval for Whissenhunt trails to be marked one-way. Work at Whissenhunt to mark Whissenhunt trails directional will begin at the workday planned for Saturday, 1/20/2023. If you can make it, we can use the help.
Rascal Woolridge (above) made the rounds to insure that all were having a good time and that the floor was well-kept.
Before the night is over, Wooly’s provided several door prizes that were raffled among those that attended the meeting, including backpacks, hats, tie-down straps, motor oil, bike polish, and more. A great finish to the evening.
