Oakey Mountain Workday #3, 5-14-2022 (Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative)
Great day at Oakey Mountain. Beautiful weather, and a good turnout which included 3 USFS staff and 9 GARTRA volunteers including GARTRA’s Davenport trail captain Bob Connett.
This is the 3rd of 6 planned workdays sponsored by Yamaha Outdoors and https://www.facebook.com/TheGreatOutdoorsFund/. We had two tasks to perform which included rebuilding the loading dock in the North parking lot, and continue work in the day use area which had been started on the first two workdays. We divided into two groups.
One group worked to rebuild the loading dock in the parking area. The second group worked on the day use area. In prior workdays we had laid timbers to mark parking and picnic areas, and assembled and installed picnic tables and grills. Today we spread gravel that had been dropped, and continued laying timbers, etc. Still need more gravel to finish. And finally we broke for lunch prepared by Bob Connett, GARTRA’s Davenport trail captain. Lunch included hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, macaroni salad, water, soft drinks and all the fixings.
After lunch, several of us suited up and hit the trails. The trails are in good shape. Lots of fun to be had at Oakey Mountain.
